Eric Martin wasn’t penalized … at least not immediately.
The Big 12 has announced that Martin, a linebacker for Nebraska, has been suspended for hitting Oklahoma State’s Andrew Hudson during the Cornhuskers’ 54-41 win. Hudson, who was covering a kick, was blindsided by Martin’s block.
No penalty was called on the play, which resulted in a 100-yard kickoff return.
“Mr. Martin committed a flagrant act of targeting an opponent with the crown of his helmet in violation of NCAA Football Rules,” said Dan Beebe, the commissioner of the Big 12. “This dangerous hit is one that we in the football community are trying to remove from the game.”
