Annual Internship Program

Program Overview
Sahlen Sports Park, established in 1999, provides an inclusive environment for students to apply variety of sport business practices in operating, maintaining, developing a 200,000 sq.ft. multi-sport facility to provide a wide variety of practical learning and experiences.
Sahlen Sports Park is host to Co-ed, men’s, women and youth soccer leagues. As well as softball tournaments, girls youth lacrosse leagues, field hockey leagues and so much more. Interns will help run, organize, and create future leagues. A list of task can be found below in the expectation section.
Interns work closely with Sahlen’s Sports Park front office in learning the business side of a sports facility management. Interns are also provided a part-time job at the facility to earn extra money and to learn how the work they put in will play a factor the facility from an overall aspect.
The internship runs Oct 15th and runs until the end of April. The start date can be flexible if needed.

Eligibility Requirements
Students must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university either undergraduate or graduate. We look for community involvement, volunteerism, relevant experience, general sport knowledge, and a wiliness to learn.
Candidates should be highly self-motivated students that strive for success. They should have excellent verbal communication, prioritize tasks and have a positive attitude, great work ethic as well as the abilities to organize, work well in team environment, and assist in all areas when needed.

Program Curriculum
The ultimate goal of the program is to position the student as a marketable candidate for future jobs or internships. We will provide an environment for them to obtain real world knowledge with hands on experiences.
Each intern will be partnered with a mentor to allow the students to learn from professionals in a real-world work environment. The mentor will serve as a teacher to help each intern to grow as an individual. They will also have bi-monthly meetings with their mentor.

Program Stipend
The internship will provide interns a stipend of $1,500 for the length of the internship of Oct. 15 – the end of April. The start date can be flexible if needed.
We also provide a part-time position to earn extra money while becoming a vital part of our organization. You will be working at either our Front Desk, Pro Shop and closing the facility. You’ll learn how everything that is done in the office ties into the facility daily.

Evaluations
We do not provide written evaluations, but are willing to complete any evaluations required by the school. We will conduct exit interviews as well to provide feedback of how the intern can grow.

Hiring Process
Interviews will be conducted at Sahlen Sports Park between Oct 3rd-6th. Interested applicants will need to send their cover letter, resume and

Internship Role Description

Length of Program: Oct 15- End of April.

Internship 2012/2013
This intern will be mentored by the General Manager along with his field sales assist. The intern will have the opportunity to learn various sale tactics to increase revenue. This intern will work closely in day-to-day sales needs pertaining to the sports park. Also will learn new business strategies and projects.

Duties & Expectations
• Sales Calls • Creation of new camps and clinic • Develop relationships with soccer clubs and leagues • Develop sale tactics • Tournament planning and organization • Work with current and potential clients • Assist in out-bound target sales call campaign • Answer phone and provide best customer service • Client interactions • Develop Pricing strategies • P&L for new potential leagues • Customer Service; Answer phones, assist guests • Coordinate in-house programs • Assist in calendar of programs, leagues, tournaments and camps • Execute internal projects • Website input • Data input • Pro Shop inventory • Assist in SSP Facebook & Twitter • Create & prepare sale email blasts • Construct business letters & coordinate mailing • Update & maintain information regarding tournaments • Work on internal projects • Prepare team packet pick up for tournaments • Customer service; answer phones, assist guests • Coordinate in-house programs • Assist in calendar of programs, leagues, tournaments and camps • Oversee communication among SSP leagues and captains • Grow Customer base • Market facility in community • Company research • Creative design • Break-even reports on potential new business programs • Assist in P&L reports for potential opportunities • Assisting in developing new creative promotions with Pro Shop • Social media promotions
