Adam Silver became commissioner of the National Basketball Association February 1, 2014. He succeeded David Stern, who endorsed him for the post on October 25, 2012.

An attorney, Silver is a native of Westchester, County, New York. As a young fan, he followed the New York Knicks.

In 1984, Silver graduated from Duke University. Four years later (1988), he received a law degree from the University of Chicago.

Silver’s NBA career began in 1992. Among the positions he’s held are special assistant to the commissioner, NBA chief of staff and senior vice president of NBA Entertainment.

Prior to joining the NBA, Silver worked as a litigation associate for a New York firm and as law clerk for a federal judge.
