SUMMARY:

Under general supervision the men’s head
ice hockey coach is responsible for recruiting, coaching, and planning for the men’s ice hockey team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Supervise men’s ice hockey coaches and programs

Operates the program under the rules and regulations of the university, the NCAA, and AHC.

I

nstructs methods and strategies and coaches student-athletes in the sport

Provides motivation, both athletic and academic, to student-athletes

Recruits student-athletes for the men’s ice hockey team

Makes recommendations for scholarships Schedules practices and games

Transports and supervises players while on the road

Responsible for providing, in a timely manner
before the beginning of the season, to the public relations office (sports information) all material relevant to the team (rosters with hometowns, high schools, etc. and schedules). Coordinate
with public relations the manner in which the team information will be reported to the media

Administrative duties such as maintaining

budget, hiring, handling personnel under his/her direction

Assist in the creation and implementation of
marketing strategies and in the promotion of the men’s ice hockey team

Public figure for university, handling public
speaking, personal appearance and media interview responsibilities

Review and apply all policies and procedures outlined in the university Affirmative Action Plan

Maintain confidentiality of information

(including but not limited to: student and
employee personal information, student grades, etc.),

both during and
after their employment with the University. Any question regarding the confidentiality of material, should be referred to the supervisor. Any violation shall subject the employee to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment

Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

50% Supervise and leads men’s ice hockey coaches and programs under the regulations for the university

20% Recruit
student-athletes for men’s ice hockey programs

15% Provide
academic and developmental support

5% Public appearances and responsibilities

10% Maintain budget and other administrative
duties. Consistently monitors all employees who report to this position and write a minimum one performance review annually for each employee at a time recommended by human resources.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of coaching techniques and ability to relate to student-athletes;

Strong working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations; Knowledge of academic eligibility rules; Strong interpersonal, organizational, written
and oral communication skills; Proficiency to handle various office machines including but not limited to: computer keyboard, computer software applications, calculator, copy machine and fax; Ability to receive telephone calls, respond to

inquiries and communicate with others;Ability to work weekends and evenings;
Ability to drive a personal or university
vehicle for the purpose of university business; Ability to travel with the team and for

recruiting purposes.

ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS:

The functions of the position usually
performed sitting, but may require some amount of time standing. Some amount of
stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying and other movements may be required. Tasks
involving working on a computer keyboard, computer software applications, calculator, cutting, labeling, and taping involve extensive wrist and hand movement. All individuals are required
to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

Bachelor

degree required or equivalent experience;

Two
to four years of experience coaching on the collegiate or high amateur levels is preferred; Must
take NCAA recruiting test within 30 days, must pass within 120 days of hire (Four
months); A
valid New York State driver’s license is
required that satisfies both University and insurance company underwriting rules and regulations for driving a motor;
